This nice drink successfully combines orange juice freshness, bitter taste of orange peels, species’ warm sweetness and subtle wine notes.

Delicious aperitif, it’s perfect served neat or on the rocks. Also Vin d’Orange works really well in cocktails being mixed with London dry gin.

I’ve took two recipes – from Imbibe website and from Nightcapped blog – and slightly adapted them to the conditions I have in Russia.

Ingredients:

  • 1 bottle of dry white wine,
  • 100-150 ml vodka,
  • 100 grams sugar,
  • 2-4 oranges,
  • 1 lemon,
  • 1 cinnamon stick,
  • a half of vanilla bean.

You can take a bottle of rose wine instead of white wine. Two big oranges will be enough. I used four small oranges: two usual and two blood-coloured.

Wash oranges and lemon thoroughly and cut them.

Crush cinnamon stick. Cut vanilla bean lengthwise to release its seeds.

Place sugar and spices into big jar, add wine and stir sugar until it dissolves.

Add vodka, orange and lemon pieces.

Close tightly and let steep for 2-3 weeks in dark place. Shake every day.

Strain liquid and discard solids. Filter infused wine through cheesecloth then through paper napkin.

Add vodka and sugar to taste and bottle.
